SRFTI (Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute) is the second national centre of cinema education in India. It is located in Kolkata , established in 1995 by the govt. of India. It is an autonomous academic institute under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. It is such a place that inspire you to accept the long and eventful or adventurous journey or experience with confidence and conviction.

If you are interested in it , then you can do a three years post graduate course on film or a two years post graduate course on electronic and digital media.

Nowadays, the institute conducts a three years post graduate course in cinema under six specialization subjects. Those are in the given below-

  1. Direction and Screen playing
  2. Editing
  3. Cinematography
  4. Sound recording and design
  5. Producing for film and television
  6. Animation cinema

Besides these , you can do a two years post graduate course in electronic and digital media under six specialization subjects. These are –

  • Electronic and Digital media market
  • Writing for electronic and digital media
  • Direction and Producing for electronic and digital media
  • Cinematography for electronic and digital media
  • Editing for electronic and digital media
  • Sound for electronic and digital

Apart from the above courses, the institute also conducts short courses on film appreciation, acting, library science, digital editing and so on

How Can You Join Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute

One can admit in this institute by the admission process consists of national administered Joint Entrance Test (JET) and there are some subsequent rounds for the orientation in the institute.

Students are selected on the basis of their JET score and performance in the orientation and interview and finally the institute provide a merit list on the above said process.

Reservation of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute

Like the other fields, here also reservation will be as per norms. These are given in the following

  • OBC non-creamy layer – 27% of seats in every course – [candidates belong to creamy layer of OBC are not entitled in reservation. Such candidates are treated as belong to general category]
  • SC category – 15% of seats in every course
  • ST category – 7.5% of seats in every course
  • PWD category – 5% of seats in every course – [The candidates who are visually impaired , having disability in upper limbs or have lost fingers in hand to avail the benefit of PWD category]

Eligibility of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute

1) Candidates must have the graduation degree from a recognized or disciplined college . (12th pass candidate can not apply in it )

2) Candidates who are interested to learn sound recording and designing , they have physics subject in their (10+2) level examination.

3) Candidates who will apply in animation cinema department , they must be proficient in drawing.

The same rule is applicable for the electronic and digital media department.

A candidate can apply maximum two subjects. If one apply more than two subjects , then his/her applications will be rejected and no fees will be refunded.

Additional Information Of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute

Form fill up is started from the 1st week of December. It is continued to the last week of January. Admit card is provided in the 1st week of February. Entrance exam is conducted in the middle of February. Result is provided around the month of May. It is a bilingual (English and Hindi) entrance test.
